On this note, my future now lies elsewhere. Well, to steal a line from another pioneer like yourself, I'd like to say "Yes we can!" Alexander, you once asked me if it would be possible for us to create lawyers and law graduates in prison. Thirdly - last but by no means least, I should like to thank Alexander McClean, Founder & Director-General of APP for having taken that chance on me and allowing me to work for this wonderful organisation. Secondly, I would like to thank my staff at Upper Prison, for working with me come rain or shine making history with the first ever inmate-run Pro Bono Legal Services Clinic in Uganda. However, what I am most grateful for are three-fold:įirstly, I would like to thank everybody for having allowed me to see men and women transition out from Death Row and eventually regain their place amongst the free armed with a law degree. Looking back, I am grateful that through APP I was able to converse with the very witty Lord Adair Turner doppelganger Michael Patchett Joyce at a drinkery in Doha, talk heavy metal and Skid Row with Jason Flom during a TEDx and discuss language and law breaking with Prof. Jenny Hamilton and Patricia Mckellar of the University of London, Kathy Brown of the University of Bristol, Peter Herbert of the Society of Black Lawyers and Mark Kelly and Toby Brown both "Of Counsel". It has been a time during which I have met and worked with the most interesting volunteers and staff, including the wonderful men and women of the Uganda Prisons Services, my colleagues, Prof. It has been an inspiring and humbling twelve months and more. After several years with my employer, African Prisons Project (APP), today I have my last day in office before moving on. Tomorrow marks a milestone in my career that will probably make me a better person for it's passing.
